About Us

Stanford Energy Corporate Affiliates (SECA, formerly named Energy 3.0) is the corporate affiliate program for the Precourt Institute for Energy, which serves as the hub of a broad, deep network of experts from various science, technology, behavioral, and policy disciplines who are working independently as well as collaboratively to solve the world's most pressing energy problems.

With an emphasis on private sector interactions, SECA promotes excellence in energy research, education, and policy. SECA's mission: to foster cutting-edge energy research and provide sustained support for academic education.

Our objective is to support energy-related research with the following goals:

  • Share knowledge and resources to create solutions to advance energy technology,
  • Engage industry in flexible ways,
  • Create more opportunities for students and faculty to work with industry, and
  • Accelerate the pace of innovation and scale-up of advanced energy technologies.

The research areas are broadly defined and can be customized by member companies' desire to specify focus areas.

The program's Faculty Co-Directors are Sally Benson, Director and Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy, and Professor of Energy Resources Engineering; and Arun Majumdar, Director of the Precourt Institute for Energy, and the Jay Precourt Professor of Mechanical Engineering and of Photon Science.

SECA works with numerous organizations across Stanford, including the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy, which works to develop and deploy sustainable energy solutions and train future energy leaders.
